Message from the President
Let me take this opportunity to express my thanks and profound gratitude to you all for the constant support you have given me since September 2007. As you are aware that since taking the responsibility of Gulshan Youth Club for the tenure of 2007-2009, with kind cooperation of the Executive Committee, including our members and others we have managed to come a long way. I believe that we could truly establish our Club-slogan that is 'sports and beyond' through our multifaceted programmes during this period. During the above-mentioned period we have managed to stream line our sports activities through regular coaching programmes facilitated by professional coaches in the areas of Football, Cricket, Basketball, Yoga, Skating, Karate etc. Children from the locality are regularly coming to the field to take part in tournaments and others and all sorts of sport activities is there through out the year. We have taken extra initiatives to improve the Club. The Club premises also gaining popularity among walkers. Walkers are enjoying their walk's and daily exercises in our well-lit walk ways in the morning and in the evening. It can also be added that regular tournaments and grand prize distribution ceremonies have been able to create enthusiasm among our players. We have arrangements for indoor games like table tennis, pool and carom. This surely gives the Club a homely atmosphere for spending times with friends and families.
As you all know that Gulshan Youth Club is not only about sports. We felt that it is our social responsibility to create an environment for our future generation towards a more responsible and committed citizenship. They should be aware of our history and culture and learn to be proud of our national heritage. Keeping this in mind we have tried to organize cultural and other programs by celebrating the important days of our national history like 'Mohan Ekushey and International Mother Language Day', Mohan 'Shadhinota Dibosh', 'Pohela Boishakh', 'Boshonto Utshab' and 'Mohan Bijoy Dibosh'. We also arranged for Eid reunion, picnic and Ifter party for the members. Our desire was to create a platform where residents across the age group can own this Club as a center for pursuing a good healthy life, for recreation, social responsibility and a place where we all can feel the bondage as a member of the community. We have also extended our activities towards several charity programmes during the flood, SIDR and Aila attack, including winter clothes distribution among the street kids of Gulshan and running a Free Friday clinic for the disadvantaged group. This year we have started a free elementary school called "Gyc Pathshala" for the street kids of the area. We have also signed MOU with various hospitals both home and abroad to facilitate priority service at a discounted rate for our members; We hope to keep this up in future as well.
However, since many years one of the most critical threats to the Club was various commercial progarmmes like concert and wedding ceremonies, and many official programmes which created nuisance in the area as well as damaged the field for sports activities. We tried to stop these programmes through advocacy and by placing petition to the concerned authorities. It is not an easy job but we are hopeful that with the help of all, we will be able to make this field free from all these obstacles in near future.
This Club is for the young and for the adults. This Club is for the members and for the residents. We wish to work for the community with the active support from other clubs and associations to make our efforts more constructive and meaningful. We are truly grateful for all the support we received from Gulshan Society, Gulshan Masjid Committee, Gulshan Ladies Club, local Mp's and Commissioner including many of the renowned residents of Gulshan and different Govt, authorities.
We have dreams around this Club, this is the Club where we have played during our childhood and we hope to leave this playground to our future generation, to our future leaders- a hassle free and open field to all. We want to share this dream with you. Your active support will make this dream come true.
I would like to express my gratitude to our General Secretary, Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Joint Secretary, the EC Members, office Secretary, staffs and Coaches for their constant effort in organizing and participating in different events of the Club. This field has been allocated for the residents and we the Club members are trying to develop this field through our activities, services and commitments on behalf of the community. Members of the Club are its life line. My heartiest thanks to all of them for being with us. We have nothing to loose but to gain a more vibrant, creative and healthy generation for us and for the nation. Through our endeavors I am sure we all feel proud to be a valued member of GYC.
We have started a journey, which has yet to cross a long way, but with your advice and support we can go even further. Please feel free to come up with ideas and suggestions with regard to the development of Club activities and facilities.
We hope to see this Club as a center for excellence for sports and beyond with all of your support and cooperation.
